Last month’s been (as the economist in me might say) a total deadweight loss. Not a single word written, not a single jot or tittle edited. Not that it’s been without its lessons mind you, ones that I daresay everyone reading this knows. But, just to flog another dead horse and remind the internet I still exist, let me bore you with it.
Stress, life, and the pursuit of the near-impossible to produce the close-to-impossible for the absolutely ungrateful will, with absolute certainty, kill off the inner muse (or at least send her reeling back to her daybed in a state of total shock). I had the good (or mis) fortune of being dragged off on a short-term contract to another part of the globe which, by itself, was enough to occupy me 18 hours out of each day in temperatures that would make a penguin shiver, but it had the added impact of killing off the two weeks prior and afterwards as pre and post delivery stress wracked me.
Being away didn’t stop the usual march of uncontrollable catastrophes at home (including my bank deciding that my absence was the perfect time to roll out an abysmally woeful systems upgrade that skewered a few accounts, more rain than Moses could imagine ensuring that what was once a lawn resembled the Amazon on my return, and some crazy orange child in the USofA deciding that bombing the heck out of one country so we’d buy oil from another one he’d invaded was a great idea) that simply added to the pile. Best of all (yes, sarcasm, but I’m out of wit right now) the reverberations just keep on giving, and although $2.50 a litre for petrol’s nowhere near €3.15 a litre it’s all relative.
Upshot of all this was that, as we all know, stress gained the upper hand and that put paid to writing or anything other than trying to catch breath between disasters. So, hopefully, I’ll be able to just nail my rear to the patio and chill for a while and try to get some writing done.
Speaking of writing, update on the release of Death: Descent Book 2 has come through and it looks like August this year’s going to be the date. Still waiting on official confirmation from the publisher, plus the draft cover art, but once I know I’ll post it here.
Until next time stay safe, keep writing.
