January’s been a pretty good month for me writing wise. I’ve basically doubled the word count on Descent: Diaspora by adding another 18,800 words which brings it up to 36,465. Well, yee ha, only another 252,000 left to go – that’s exactly how long the WHOLE of this first draft of the novel was expected to be. No matter what I write, from flash fiction to novels, I always overshoot the final word count by at least ten to twenty percent. Thankfully I’m a vicious editor so, in the long run (about draft 6 or thereabouts) I’ll be close to the 250,000 word original target.

I’ve also managed to sort out some of the trickier, nuanced sections that I’ve shunted into the early part of the novel. I love breadcrumb trails, believe my readers have the minds and desire to pick up small clues as they read along and enjoy the eventual delivery.
Going to be quiet now for a few months, probably until the end of May, and then I fully expect to be knee-deep in Descent: Death edits for release in December this year. So stay tuned, and stay safe.
